So I was sitting in my kitchen, drinking tea and eating a bagel, when I looked out the window into the classroom next to my apartment building (a Catholic elementary and middle school). At first I was unsure what exactly the children were doing, then I realized that the boys in the class had little paper headbands wrapped their noggins and the girls were wearing funny little white hats. It occurred to me that the class was pretending to be indians and pilgrims (a little late?). Upon closer inspection, the girls were preparing a faux-thanksgiving feast while a group of boys played on the side of the room, often patting their hands over their mouths and dancing awkwardly.

I'd like to shake the hand of that classes teacher and congratulate them for perpetuating racial stereotypes and outdated female gender roles. Great job!

Recap of the last month here in the Boston area:
Moved in to my apartment.
Was overheated just about everyday.
Started my new job.
Loved my new job.
Rode my bike.
Got hit by a cop while riding my bike.
Got a new bike.
Registered for classes.

It's weird to think that I've been living here for a month already.

I had a birthday. Nothing too special. Spent the day collecting goods for my apartment and spending time with my mother. My two special ladies stopped by to have sesame tofu and chocolate-apricot cake.

I've eaten a lot of cake lately. I blame the stress of finals and apartment hunting.

The hunt may have yielded something positive though. Jennifer and I found 2 places that we both like, one in Medford and one in Somerville. We both like the one in Medford more.

It's looking like I may have 2 jobs lined up. So hopefully I can afford the move.

My birthday is in a week.

One of my kids called me a pedophile today, not knowing what it meant. Then he cried because he thought I was mad at him.

Apartment seach moves on, getting more and more productive.
Jennifer and I visited what may be my next place of labor. True Ground cafe and coffeeshop in Somerville. It's pretty sweet.

This last week I:
FOUND MY CAR WHILE BIKING THROUGH MANCHESTER. It was 3 blocks away from the police station, too. Thanks Manchester PD.
Saw Defiance, Ohio... and got the hots for someone.
Did critcal mass and saw the person I have the hots for.
Hung out with the person I have the hots for outside of an abandoned opera house before going to a party inside said opera house.
Went to NYC for the Protest.
And called apartments with Jen.

Today between 2:30-4:30, my car was stolen from directly in front of The New Hampshire Institute of Art, while I was inside making prints.

The director of transfer admissions at Lesley College called me four times today to inform me that the admissions board came back with a unanimous decision and that I've been accepted into the Global Studies program. It made me feel good about myself.

I now have 5 finished prints for my final project! Only ten more.

Somehow I have to figure out a way to make more money in the next month and half so that I can move in the beginning of summer. I don't know exactly how I'm going to pull it off, but I'll hopefully figure it out. I've applied for a few jobs already, but have not heard back from anyone. The greater Boston YMCA e-mailed me about transferring, and it seems like that's something likely. If worst comes to worst we'll just have to move later on in June or July so that I can work full time here.

I cannot wait until the end of this month.
Thursday is Defiance, Ohio at Harvard.
Friday is Critical Mass.
Saturday is the big protest in NYC.
I don't think I'm going to be doing too much this month in order to save enough money to do all of this and not break the bank. That means no going out for lunch, no shows, no movies, no random trips to Boston (other than to finish my photo project), and no DRIVING.

Also, today is Leigh's birthday. Happy Birthday Leigh.

I'm back in New Hampshire. Portland was fun, as usual. Attended the Northwest Veg fest at which Leigh and I ate some wonderful food, learned about gogi berries, and I fell in love with an event volunteer that gave me orange juice. Saw V for Vendetta. Went to the World Still Says NO to War rally and march. And hung out, a lot.

I got detained and questioned at the Philly airport for 40 minutes. I guess I'm a terrorist. The people that pulled me aside put my film though an x-ray, which ruined it. So now my final project is totally fucked.

Being back here makes me discontent again. But oh well, such is life.

The other day, one of my kids raised his hand to make a statement and all he said was "Mr. Kirk, you look handsome." It was hilarious. My job is insane when I pull 9 hour shifts. After about the fourth hour the children begin to make crazy.

I'm going to a bike conference thingie on Sunday. It looks fun.

Tuesday I board my plane, heading toward PDX.

Meet my new friend. We'll be hanging out a lot after Sunday.
She's a 98 Cannondale R800, with ITM stem and ITM Super Europa aluminum handlebars/carbon fork. Basically, it's a $3000 bike that I'm buying for $500.

Today was pajama day at work. All the kiddies and teachers were decked out in their best lounge wear and ready to partake in the slumber-party goodness. Bambi II and Madagascar made for a rather easy day.

Heather and I are going to Cambridge tomorrow for my campus tour and interview at Lesley College. We're then getting lunch with Jen, it should be cute. Like us.

I'm leaving for Portland in less than 12 days. I'm going to be broke as all fuck, but it's worth it. I'll just have to try and work as much a possible to boost my saving back up.
